Thank you for the opportunity to invite you to participate in this year’s
Passport Adventure 2010 – Destination: South America.
The WHEAT organization has successfully joined hands with faith communities, organizations and social service agencies to fight hunger at all levels since 1979. WHEAT has been busy supporting nutrition assistance programs, such as the Summer Food Program in our schools; promoting economic justice and equality through fair trade; providing tools of advocacy and education in order to promote public policies that support a self sustaining future for all.
On MAY 8, 2010 WHEAT will wisk you away on a journey to countries in South America that will amaze and entertain. You'll never guess that you are still in
Phoenix, Arizona. Our annual fundraising event is a global adventure, to be sure.
Did you know that South America is home to:
- the world's highest waterfall, Angel Falls in Venezuela;
- the largest river (by volume), the Amazon River;
- the longest mountain range, the Andes (whose highest mountain is Aconcagua at 6,962 m (22,841 ft);
- the driest desert, the Atacama Desert;
- the largest rainforest, the Amazon Rainforest;
- the highest capital city, La Paz, Bolivia;
- the highest commercially navigable lake in the world, Lake Titicaca;
- and the world's southernmost town, Puerto Toro, Chile.
